What It Is

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. It activates two separate metabolic pathways at the same time, making it more powerful than GLP-1 compounds alone. It is a 39-amino acid peptide originally developed for type 2 diabetes.

What It Does

Tirzepatide produces greater fat loss than semaglutide in head-to-head trials. Patients lost an average of 20 to 22 percent of body weight in the SURMOUNT-1 trial. It also improves blood sugar, reduces triglycerides, lowers blood pressure, and improves insulin sensitivity significantly.

How It Works

GIP receptors in fat tissue improve how your body stores and burns fat. GLP-1 receptors reduce appetite and slow digestion. Activating both at the same time creates a stronger metabolic effect than either pathway alone. The result is faster fat loss with better metabolic improvement.

Cautions

Same contraindications as semaglutide: avoid with personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2. GI side effects are common at higher doses. Titrate slowly. Not recommended during pregnancy.

Pairs Well With
