What It Is
PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a melanocortin receptor agonist. It is a synthetic analog of alpha-MSH (alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone) and is the only compound that works directly on the central nervous system to improve sexual function in both men and women.
What It Does
PT-141 increases sexual desire, arousal, and satisfaction in both men and women. In men it can improve erectile function. In women it increases genital arousal and sexual motivation. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors (Viagra, Cialis), PT-141 works through the brain rather than the vascular system, making it effective even when vascular-based treatments have failed.
How It Works
PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors (MC3R and MC4R) in the hypothalamus, which are directly involved in sexual motivation and arousal. This central nervous system mechanism is distinct from peripheral vascular mechanisms and produces a different quality of effect, including increased desire and motivation alongside physical arousal.
