What It Is
LL-37 is a human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, the only cathelicidin found in humans. It is produced by immune cells, epithelial cells, and skin cells as part of the innate immune response. It is one of the most studied antimicrobial peptides in human biology.
What It Does
LL-37 kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi through direct membrane disruption. It also modulates immune function, promotes wound healing, reduces biofilm formation, and has anti-cancer properties in certain contexts. It is particularly valuable for people with chronic infections, biofilm-associated conditions, or immune dysregulation.
How It Works
LL-37 disrupts microbial cell membranes through electrostatic interactions, causing rapid cell death. It also activates toll-like receptors and other pattern recognition receptors, modulating the innate immune response. The wound healing effects are mediated through promotion of cell migration and angiogenesis.
Who Benefits Most
People with chronic bacterial or viral infections. People with biofilm-associated conditions (chronic sinusitis, Lyme disease, chronic UTIs). People with immune dysregulation or frequent infections. Anyone with chronic wounds that are slow to heal. People with skin conditions associated with microbial imbalance.
Protocol and Dosing
Typical dose: 100 to 500 mcg injected subcutaneously once daily. Can also be used topically for skin and wound applications. Cycle length: 4 to 8 weeks.
| Route | Typical Dose | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Subcutaneous injection | 100 to 500 mcg | Once daily |
| Topical | Apply as directed | Once or twice daily |
Cautions
May cause mild injection site reactions. At high doses may cause inflammation. Use under practitioner supervision. Not recommended during pregnancy.
Pairs Well With
TA-1 for comprehensive immune modulation alongside antimicrobial support. KPV for anti inflammatory support alongside infection control. BPC-157 for wound healing alongside antimicrobial effects.
